I don't remember this show standing out as very strong at the time, aside from the Other One in the 2nd set. This was only my 3rd or 4th show, so yes this kind of dates me and my exposure to this wonderful scene.
I had just returned from a weekend of deer hunting with my dad and his friends. Hadn't been home for more than an hour and my buds came and got me and treated me to little sugar cubes with vitamin L. I would like to second the one review... I saw Phil in the bathroom too! Shook his hand and told him that his music has mean very much to me the last few years. He enthusiastically shook my hand and looked me in the eyes and said "thank you." I told my friends and they didn't believe me... I said he was coming out in a red shirt... sure enough he did. Why was he in that bathroom? Who knows. As a 16 year tripping on a school night I don't think the night could have started better.
Yes it was a subdued night, and I don't remember the Casey opener generating the excitement it should have. I found CR to have a strange, over the top vibe.
Listening back now, years past this show is awesome. Check out Girl on the Mountain > Friend of the Devil. The setlist doesn't scream spacey jam fest but it was. Just listen. Reminds me of early 1970 with the Dead melding their Americana sound with psychedelic roots. And my hat goes off to Jeff Frank, who taped just and shared damn near every show I went to in my formative years. This is a nice recording-- the Eagles's Ballroom sounds like s**t! So this is pretty nice.
I am glad I revisited this show. Give it a spin. Thanks Jeff.

Got a dwi on Thanksgiving night and missed the Chicago shows:( Glad I made it to this one! Chris and Phil are awesome together. The crowd scene was cool with a couple exceptions. That place wanted $3 for a glass of water! What the f#@*! All in all a really good show!!

I traveled three days on the greyhound, LA to Milwaukee, never seen a show outside of Cali.
There was a foot of snow and a great group of heads. Before the music started I had to use the restroom, as I made my way across the floor, Phil walked right passed me saying hi to all the fans, I felt a feeling of a much more intimate
show than the Cali shows. Chris was awesome, as was the set list, Casey Jones to open, all that
snow, that notion crossed my mind. Probably the
first time Shakedown Street made perfect sense
to me, Milwaukee is a town that at first glance
appears to be heartless but the people really are nice and full of love. Definately a great show. Thanks Phil & friends

I was in Milwaukee for Thanksgiving, and what a great deal to see Phil Lesh in the paper saying they were playing. Went by myself, that was cool though. Had a couple of drinks, smoked a joint with some people, and got grabbed on by a hippie chick, so it was alright. and the music was great. I thought the Ballroom was cool, i guess most people don't. Maybe its the bats that fly around.
check this concert out, it was enjoyable for me

Phil raged once more albeit the encore was a bit... odd. Its hard to put my finger on the vibe. The audience seemed too casual about the whole affair. Perhaps because it was a Sunday night on a grey, crappy weather weekend. Maybe the LMA issue was still fresh in all of our heads. All that said, the second set is a dandy. The Stones! The Beatles! JGB! Well done :)
